Editorial Associate

Vital City produces a quarterly policy journal, regular online commentary, original research, public convenings and more. In doing so, we seek to bring to life the best ideas about how New York and other cities can be healthy, vibrant and safe. We aim to make these solutions — and the facts behind them — understandable for all, as knowledge and debate are the cornerstones of democracy. Our contributors, who represent a broad range of political perspectives, include award-winning researchers, journalists, government practitioners and others.

Vital City is looking for an editorial associate to support this work. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Working alongside editorial, communications and administrative staff and consultants to plan, implement and manage the publication schedule.
• Uploading and updating material on the Vital City website.
• Working with writers, data scientists and videographers to discuss the editorial and publication process.
• Assisting in drafting newsletters for regular publication.
• Proofreading manuscripts to identify grammatical and spelling errors.
• Researching potential topics and writers. 
• Assisting with developing and posting social media content. 
• Assisting in organizing public events. 
• Performing administrative duties, including but not limited to, replying to emails, assembling mailing lists, helping out with contracting with consultants, processing invoices for consultants and writers and setting up meetings.
• Serving as a liaison with our fiscal sponsor, the Fund for the City of New York.

Qualifications: 

Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, an interest in urban issues, a feel for language and strong organizational capabilities. We are seeking a good-humored person with the flexibility to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced team. The ability to juggle multiple requests and evolving projects is essential. Excellent PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills are required.

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000
